Dining At The Poop Deck Nassau Bahamas

If you’re exploring Nassau and searching for a place to enjoy local seafood and island vibes, chances are you’ve come across The Poop Deck Nassau Bahamas. This well-known restaurant boasts stunning ocean views and a reputation for fresh Bahamian dishes. I recently dined at their East Bay Street location, eager to experience what so many tourists and locals rave about. Here’s my honest review, covering the menu, atmosphere, and overall experience.

First Impressions of The Poop Deck Nassau

The Poop Deck, Nassau’s long-standing seafood restaurant, is perched right on the marina, offering diners a picturesque backdrop of boats and turquoise waters. Its casual yet iconic name makes it a must-visit for many first-time travelers. There are two locations: Poop Deck East Bay and the western counterpart near Sandyport, but I visited the original on East Bay Street.

As I entered, the relaxed island décor and open-air seating set a chill tone, and I was excited to dive into the menu.

The Poop Deck Nassau Menu

The Poop Deck Nassau menu features a wide variety of seafood, including fresh catch of the day options (which where pretty steep in my opinion), conch prepared in multiple ways, and Bahamian-inspired entrees. Steaks, chicken, and vegetarian options are also available for the non-seafood lovers.

Some highlights on the Poop Deck menu Bahamas include: Bahamian Lobster Tail, Conch Chowder, Grilled Lobster Tail, Land and Sea (Surf & Turf). And other Bahamain Classiscs such as peas’ and rice and coleslaw.

Appetizer at The Poop Deck Nassau

For starters, I had the conch chowder. The initial taste was okay, but after adding some of the pepper lemon sauce/juice, it was good to go! However, the rolls that came with it tasted like pure flour so definitely not worth the calories. I also stole a piece of the chicken wings that were ordered for the table, and honestly, it lacked seasoning. I couldn’t help but wonder if they cook for people with hypertension, (its pretty rampant in the Bahamas).

So overall I give the chowder a 7/10.

Main Course Experience

For my main course, I opted for the Grilled Fisherman’s Platter. This dish includes a half lobster tail, shrimp, and mahi mahi. The two side dishes I ordered were veggies and plantains.

The standout for me was the shrimp, it was cooked to perfection! Unfortunately, the rest of the platter needed work. I could tell the vegetables were frozen; they seemed to have been boiled instead of steamed, resulting in watery bites that were not so fun to eat. The plantains were also the frozen variety, which I’m not a fan of as they tend to be sliced on the fat and retain a little too much oil. However, if that’s your cup of tea, you might enjoy them.

As for the fish, it was overcooked but seasoned nicely, while the lobster was slightly undercooked but seasoned nicely. Overall, the shrimp saved the dish for me.

I give it a 5/10.

Dessert at The Poop Deck Nassau

For dessert, I had the guava duff, which was also a letdown. While I’m sure some people would love it, I did not. The duff-to-dough ratio was off, and the sauce was too thin for my liking. (Admittedly, I’m a pretty harsh critic when it comes to desserts!)

I give it a 4/10.

My Honest Review: Poop Deck Bahamas

I’ll be candid—while The Poop Deck Nassau Bahamas has a beautiful setting and friendly service, my overall dining experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. Here’s a quick summary:

  • Ambiance: 10/10. You really can’t beat dining right on the marina.
  • Service: 8/10. The staff was attentive and welcoming.
  • Food: 5/10. The shrimp was a high point, but the rest of the meal fell flat.
  • Value: 5/10. For the price, I expected a more memorable and flavorful meal.

It’s possible I caught them on an off day, but based on my visit, I’d say The Poop Deck Nassau leans more on its location and tradition than on culinary excellence.

Should You Visit The Poop Deck?

If you’re in Nassau and want to sip a cold drink while watching the boats drift by, the Poop Deck East Bay is a gorgeous spot to do just that. For foodies chasing bold Bahamian flavors, though, I’d suggest exploring other local gems first and saving this one for a scenic drink or casual snack if you’re nearby.
