Mielle Avocado & Tamanu Anti-Frizz System Review: My Wash Day Disaster
Let’s talk about it! The Mielle Avocado & Tamanu Anti-Frizz System sounded like a dream for my natural hair. After watching a few reviews, I was genuinely excited to try the full system. Lightweight moisture with anti-frizz protection? Yes, please! It honestly sounded too good to be true, and for me, unfortunately, it was.
I followed every step. I even refrigerated the products, just like the directions suggested. But sis… when I say it was a wash day disaster, I am not even exaggerating. I even tried to fix it halfway through the day, but eventually gave up and let my hair do what it wanted.
If you’re searching for Mielle avocado and tamanu reviews from someone with real 4-type natural curls this is it. No filters. No fluff. Just my honest experience.
My Wash Day: What I Used
I used the full Mielle Avocado & Tamanu Anti-Frizz System lineup: the Anti-Frizz Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave-In Conditioner (Slip & Seal), and Curl Perfector. The shampoo had a decent lather and didn’t strip my hair, which was nice. Nothing about it stood out, but it got the job done. The conditioner had pretty decent slip and helped me detangle without much trouble. Not too shabby.
Then came the Mielle Avocado Leave-In Conditioner. This is a lightweight spray that you’re supposed to use chilled. Here’s my gripe though; spray leave-ins are just so hard to use! After the first spritz, my hands were slippery, and trying to hold and pump the bottle was a nightmare. I was fighting the packaging more than I was fighting frizz.
Finally, I applied the Curl Perfector, which is supposed to define curls and seal in moisture. And that’s where things took a turn. The product felt super light, and as I was working the product into my hiar, I could already see frizz forming. The curls weren’t clumping or holding. And this was while my hair was soaking wet! If you do wash and go’s then you know!
The Results: What Worked (and What Didn’t)
To be fair, I like to give credit where it’s due. The shampoo and conditioner cleaned and softened my hair without harsh stripping. The scent across all the products werent bad they were light, fresh, and not overpowering. I also appreciated that the system is silicone-free, paraben-free, and made specifically for textured hair.
That said, my hair said “No ma’am.” I went in expecting smooth, frizz-free curls, but instead, I got a puff on top of my head filled with frizz and undefined strands I even finished styling. I know I live in The Bahamas and yes, it’s humid but come on! The entire system is marketed as “anti-frizz” and claims to work well in humid climates. I expected at least some level of humidity protection.
It felt like the product mostly sat on top of my strands rather than penetrating. Later, I learned that the front of my hair has started transitioning to low porosity, but even the back, which usually behaves better, didn’t hold up. My hair ended up looking like a giant puffball with a few curls sprinkled in for decoration.
My Honest Verdict
As someone who relies heavily on a solid natural hair wash and go routine, I need products that offer moisture, definition, and most of all hold! This system just didn’t deliver. If your hair is type 3 or even type 2, I can see how this might work for you. But for my type 4 hair anddd low-porosity curls? It simply wasn’t enough.
I had high hopes for the Mielle Avocado system, but it just didn’t work for me. I really wanted to love it the branding, the ingredients, the promise of frizz-free hair. But this system had no love for me.
Final Thoughts on the Mielle Avocado System
Let me be clear: this review isn’t meant to bash the brand. I love several other Mielle Organics products. They’re staples in my collection (even with some of the controversy they’ve been facing lately). However, this particular set didn’t do what it promised.
If you were thinking about buying the full Mielle Avocado & Tamanu Anti-Frizz System based on the term “anti-frizz,” I recommend testing one product at a time before committing to the full bundle, especially if you have type 4 hair or low porosity hair like I do.
Let’s Chat: Did It Work for You?
Have you tried this system? Let’s trade notes! I’d love to hear your experience. Drop your Mielle avocado and tamanu reviews in the comments especially if it worked for you. Maybe your hair type responded differently than mine?
Bonus: I’m Giving It Away!
Since I only used the products once, I’m doing a giveaway for the whole system. If you’re in Nassau, Bahamas, head over to my [Instagram] or [TikTok] to enter. (Depending on when you read this, the giveaway may or may not still be open.)
At this point I think many of us curlies are used to products not living up to what they claim to do! I love the light and pleasant fragrance of many of the Mielle products but my hair just doesn’t like them. I have a mix of type 2 and 3 but mostly 3. The closest I got to getting defined curls was using waaaay too much of the product. Anything less and I still ended up with a lot of frizz. I’m in the northeast so we have all 4 seasons, but no matter which season tried it, I had the same results.
Awww man that sucks! Im just trying to find prpoducts I like. But att he same time i want to try so many….but my staples are staples
